“HE NEVER listened to me while he was alive and now in his grave he won’t hear what I say!”
Sad mum Irene Macheke (55) kneeled down beside her son after he was moered to death on a street in Vlakfontein, south of Joburg on Tuesday.
“I always told him to stop going out at night and be a good boy – but he didn’t listen to me,” she cried over the body of her son.
Apparently Michael (32) was beaten all night until he died in the morning.
He was caught by residents after they allegedly saw him and another man carrying away a steel gate.
The people blew their whistles and residents gathered to question the men about where they had got the gate.
The beating apparently started after the two couldn’t answer the questions.
Michael’s friend managed to run away but he was chased by residents and later rescued by cops and taken to hospital.
Sergeant Khalipha Mvula said: “The other man, who is in his 30s, was also badly assaulted.”
The sergeant said the cops were not alerted about the assault on Michael in time for them to save his life.
“We were called to the scene at 6am but when we got there he had already died,” Mvula said.
He added that two cases were opened at the Lenasia South Police Station.
“Cases of murder and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm were opened but no suspects have been arrested. We’re asking the public to come forward with information,” he said.
