In Kano State Nigeria: officials deny banning Christians from worship on Sunday.

The Kano State government has denied recent reports which said that Christians living in the state were banned from going to church on last Sundays of every month.

Debunking the reports, state’s Commissioner of Information, Youth, Sports and Culture,  Muhammad Garba, was quoted as saying , “the story is a complete lie, false, lacks any iota of truth and substance, mischievous and aimed at tarnishing the image and good reputation of governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and his administration.”

The Guardian reports that Comrade Garba, said the false report has also stated that all efforts by Christian leaders in Kano to appeal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) government in order to reconsider the policy proved abortive.

The commissioner maintained that story lacked professional touch, “it is filled with lies, subjectivity, sentiment, bias and irresponsibility, that is capable of breaching the hard earned peace in the state and the existing cordial relationship between the adherents of the two major religions” he said.

Garba further hinted, “the malicious story also quoted a faceless, unidentified and imaginary Islamic Cleric in the state backing the alleged policy claiming that Kano is an Islamic state, that any Christian, who is not happy with the new directive, should move to another state.”
