HOSPITAL REFUSES TO TREAT RAPE VICTIMS.

A doctor from Saint Barnabas Hospital in Libode and the hospital itself are being investigated after they allegedly refused to treat rape victims in two separate incidents, the Eastern Cape health department said on Wednesday.
"A senior doctor is being investigated and faces possible disciplinary action for allegations that he refused to treat two rape victims who were brought to the hospital by police officials," spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo told News24.
"They had to spend a full 12 hours in the hospital before being helped after the police officials who accompanied them complained to the authorities.
"A night doctor then attended to the victims."
He said a 59-year-old rape victim was also allegedly turned away at the hospital on Tuesday.
"Doctors from the same hospital said they do not look at rape victims."
That incident was also being investigated.
"We condemn this behaviour. It is unacceptable that rape victims have to be subjected to another form of abuse."
