A Zimbabwean woman whose husband tried to stop her studying by demanding sex has managed to get a court protection order against him, the state-controlled Chronicle newspaper reported today.
Winnet Mzila, who studies at Midlands State University, complained her husband fondled her whilst she was "trying to concentrate on [her] books", the newspaper reported.
Mzila told a court in the second city of Bulawayo: "When I'm trying to read, he tells me that I should have sex with him."
"When I tell him that I'm tired and want to do my assignments, he starts shouting and accusing me of having an affair," she was quoted as saying.
Midlands State University is a state-funded institution in the city of Gweru, 157km from Bulawayo.
The Chronicle said Mzila produced a knobkerrie that her husband had allegedly broken on her in a fit of rage.
Husband Bekimpilo Mzila said he loved his wife, but did not agree with her studying at the university.
