SINCE her private parts were brutally mutilated and her throat was slit in April last year, everything has changed. She can no longer bathe herself or carry her children.
The 30-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was allegedly attacked by the 34-year-old father of her three children in the shack they shared in Hans Kekana View, Hammanskraal, Tshwane.
Speaking to Daily Sun yesterday, she said: “I still have a long way to go. I can’t do anything and I rely on my sister to take care of me.”
She said when she woke up in hospital after the attack, every part of her body ached.
“My stomach was cramping and even my tears hurt me. My eyes were blood red and my skin was soft like a sponge,” she said.
“When doctors told me I was going to be okay, I couldn’t believe them.
“These days, I rely on my children’s grant money. Social workers are helping me apply for a disability grant as I have to use a wheelchair but all the forms make me feel so tired.”
She was taken to Jubilee Hospital after the attack and later transferred to Dr George Mukhari Hospital, where she underwent a vaginal reconstruction operation and had skin grafts.
She is having an operation to her leg next month and after that, she has to go for rehabilitation.
She said when she saw her former lover when he recently appeared in the Moretele Magistrates Court, she couldn’t stop crying.
Last week, he reportedly told the court he attacked his girlfriend because he had been told she was cheating.
He also denied the knife found on the crime scene was the one he used to cut her vagina.
He appeared in court today and the case will resume next Wednesday.
