WHEN a thief snatched his tyres and drove away, Zachariya O’doleh started praying.
And shortly afterwards, the suspect lost control of his bakkie and the vehicle overturned!
Speaking about the theft, the 36-year-old tyre salesman from Thaba Nchu in Free State told Daily Sun: “All I saw was dust as the man drove away with my goods. I was even intending to give him a discount but he had evil plans.”
Zachariya, who has been fasting for Ramadan, said he had just returned from the mosque when the suspect arrived at his shop.
“He took two of my tyres, saying he wanted to fit them to his bakkie to check they were the right size.”
“As I had my back turned, he sped off without paying. I was puzzled by his act, so I said a short prayer.
“I asked Allah to help me and when I opened my eyes, I saw the bakkie had overturned about 700m away from me.
“After the dust settled, I saw him lying on the ground with his passengers. They had blood on their heads. When I confronted him, he told me he was rushing to an ATM to withdraw money so he could pay me.
“I didn’t expect the thug to pull such a stunt because he had a woman sitting in the back of his bakkie.
“She nearly lost her life after landing hard on the gravel road,” Zachariya said.
“I didn’t open a case against this man because God punished him and I got my tyres back.”
Police spokesman Constable Maselela Langa said a case of reckless and negligent driving was opened after three passengers were injured, but no arrests were made.
