The last day of April 2015, Thursday 30th became the worst day in the life of the family of Lagos business man Henry Okey Dimoji as the man died in a ghastly trailer accident along Mile 2 on Apapa Express way, Lagos, South West Nigeria.Information reaching this blog last night has it that Okey Dimoji who is the first man to sell the high flying Thuraya Mobile Phone in Nigeria under his Royal Stride Telecommunications Ltd before the advent of Global System Mobile (GSM) in 2001 and his wife, Lynda had attempted a family friend’s wake keep ceremony somewhere around Festac area of Lagos on Wednesday April 29 and passed the night in a private hotel in the area as the event dragged into late evening.
The next morning April 30th the couple was alleged to have left Festac for their Maryland estate, Lagos home but on approaching Mile 2 expressway a group of police men stopped his Honda Car for search and despite proper identification of who he was to them, the police men asked him to come down and open his car booth. Sources told Asabeafrika that it was while coming down to open his car booth that the unexpected happened.

A fast moving truck which might have lost control was said to have ran over him and sped away. On seeing what happened, the group of police men were alleged to have jumped into their vehicle and sped off despite the cry of his beautiful wife, Lyndawho was shouting “Please, help, help, help!
The hit and run truck also sped away before anyone could lay hand on both the vehicle and the driver. Sources claimed that it was his wife and a Good Samaritan that quickly rushed him to a nearby hospital but he was confirmed dead on arrival.
Right now, this blog cannot confirm if efforts have been made by security agencies to arrest the erring police men who caused the accident that lead to Okey Dimoji’sdeath.
A former creative director of his firm Mr. John Olutoye Coker who visited the Okey Dimoji Drive, Maryland estate home of the late Imo state born business guru on Saturday said his wife was sedated as she has not recovered from the gory experience of watching her husband die in her very presence. Some members ofOkey Dimoji family from Enugu and Imo states were also said to be in the house while his kids, Wesley (13) and Bryan (11) are said to have been relocated to a neighbors’ apartment with no one ready to tell them that their father is late. His aged mother living in Enugu is equally said to be shrouded from the bad happenstance.
Okey Dimoji, a very creative and dynamic business man came into limelight in early 2000 when he became the only vendor of the high flying THURAYA mobile phones largely used by the elites in the society. He later established a courier company,Royal Courier in 2002 after his THURAYA market was affected by the advent of GSM. Okey’s Royal Courier became a leading brand in the cargo business sector in Nigeria with a parent company, Nigeria Cargo Force in the UK. He ran the business for four years between London and Nigeria before he closed it down and went into media business three years ago with the establishment of Wesley and Bryan Media Inc (Named after his two kids)
His Wesley and Bryan Media firm publishes what is known as A-Listers magazine and Computer Village Weekly, a community newspaper with focus on business activities in computer village in Lagos. Okey Dimoji also has a hotel investment in Enugu state, South East Nigeria. Born Henry Okey Dimoji some 48 years ago, Okey had a first degree and Master Degree in Mass Communications from University of Nigeria, Nsukka. His father was a veteran clergy of the Anglican Church in his lifetime.
In a moving eulogy posted on his wall on facebook on Saturday May 2 at 1:31p Mr. Fakoya Adebola, late Okey Dimoji’s former General Manager and Chief Accountant at Royal Courier Ltd described him in this words “Henry Okey Dimoji, your sun was suddenly cut short while it was rising by the cold hands of death! Your values of patience, perseverance & hard work will forever resonate in my heart. Just like your Laughter and consistent optimism. Your humility and spirit of forgiveness remains an inspiration to all that crossed your path. CHAIRMAN, you were kind to all that came your way regardless of their status of their status in life. On his own wall, in a post written at 6pm on Saturday May 2nd, John Olutoye Coker, late Okey Dimoji’s former Director of Creative design at Royal Courier was angry with the Nigerian police for their act of callousness that led to the business man’s death. Hear him “In this new dispensation that Nigerians are yearning and calling for CHANGE” Coker noted with anger “The Nigerian Police Force is unconcerned about the CHANGE. A very close friend, brother, former boss and business guru OKEY DIMOJI’s car was stopped for search along mile 2 expressway on Thursday on their way home from a wake keep. In his car was the wife. He was seriously hit by a hit and run trailer and guess what, the police men took to their heels. OKEY DIMOJI IS DEAD BUT WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED. Rest in peace (Amen)
