A 24-year-old woman who was desperate for a smoke has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend to death with an okapi knife.
She allegedly killed her 32-year-old boyfriend last night in Skiet informal settlement in Butterworth South Africa after he would not give her a cigarette, Eastern Cape cops said today.
The boyfriend died instantly, cop spokesman Jackson Manatha.
"Police were reliably informed that the motive for the murder is that the deceased allegedly failed to give the suspect a cigarette so that she can smoke," he said.
"Police also recovered the okapi knife that was used in the commission of the murder."
The woman was still there when cops arrived at the scene.
She is expected to appear in the Butterworth Magistrates Court on Monday on a charge of murder.
